The citation of datasets involves reference to persistent identifiers assigned to objects within a research infrastructure. Such citations are resolved by referring back to the infrastructure, which can then return a report describing the data cited.

Notation of Computational Viewpoint Models#notation_cv_objects

A user or external service tries to resolve an identifier (found in a citation) with the global CV Service Objects#pid_service used by the research infrastructure. By dereferencing the given identifier, that user or service is directed to a CV Presentation Objects#science_gateway used to interact with the infrastructure. From there, the desired provenance information about the citation can be immediately retrieved, or a CV Presentation Objects#virtual_laboratory can be deployed for more complex interactions with the research infrastructure.
